Ahmed's Challenges in Learning English as His Second Language research


     I have created this website project to accomplish my Master's degree in TESOL at the University of Kansas. This project studies a second-grade student, Ahmed, whose first language is Arabic and is learning English as a second language. My purpose of choosing a case study research method was that this method allowed me to study one learner and be so close to him to uncover the challenges Ahmed faced as an Arabic speaker who is learning English. I had observed him closely and took notes on how his English Second Language (ESL) teacher helped him to develop his second language, so he can keep up with his regular classes.  From those notes, two research questions have evolved, which I sought to get their answers in order to understand ESL learners’ needs. The first question was: What are the main challenges that Ahmed would have? The second question was: Do Arab learners of English need a special program to learn the language and to solve their challenges?
